Dubai Announces Passenger Drone Service

It can carry one passenger weighing up to 100 kilograms and can stay airborne for 30 minutes on one charge.

The arrival of the Ehang 184, dubbed the world's first passenger drone, was announced by the head of Dubai's Roads and Transportation Agency Mattar al-Tayer at the World Government Summit, which is now underway in the gulf city.

Dubai is all set to operate the first Autonomous Aerial Vehicle (AAV) capable of carrying a human this July.

Mattar al-Tayer, head of Dubai Roads and Transportation agency, announced plans for the drone service at the World Government Summit. It is an egg-shaped craft with four legs sticking out, each with two small propellers.

The PFV can fly vertically and is able to fly as high as11,000 feet.

The passenger simply enters the drone and keys in their desired destination and the rest is automated.

The flight time of the drone has a limitation.

As for performance, though the top speed is around 100 miles per hour, Dubai is likely to restrict the EHang 184 to around 62 miles per hour. The flight will be monitored with the help of 4G wireless Internet.
