Indonesian officials to meet national held over Kim Jong Nam murder

MALAYSIAN authorities are yet to confirm the origin of the deadly toxic substance used in an attack against the estranged half-brother of North Korea's supreme leader, but worldwide experts say the VX nerve agent was likely smuggled into the country.

According to the police, a preliminary analysis found VX nerve agent on the face of the victim, who was killed on February 13.

Toxicology reports coming from Malaysia indicated that he was attacked with a VX nerve agent, this is now classified as a weapon of mass destruction by the United Nations.

" VX is known to be much more potent than other nerve agent because of its persistency".

The country says it wants to meet suspects, hear their statements, asked who ordered them, and survey footage from the place where Mr Kim fell ill.

Police said this week that two other people, an official with the North Korean embassy and an employee for North Korea's state-run airline, are wanted for questioning.

The North has not acknowledged that the dead man is Kim Jong Nam.

Kim Jong Nam died on his way to the hospital.

The substance - also known as ethyl N-2-Diisopropylaminoethyl Methylphosphonothiolate - is classified by the United Nations as a weapon of mass destruction.

So far, officers have identified a total of eight North Koreans suspected of being linked to Kim's death. A colorless, odorless liquid, similar in consistency to motor oil, it kills in tiny quantities that can be absorbed through the skin.

Police said they believe the women were paid to carry out the attack and had practiced their methods in advance.

On what seemed to be the first reference of the case by the North's state media, Pyongyang said on Thursday that Malaysia was responsible for the death of one of its citizens.

North Korea and Malaysia are already entangled in a dispute regarding Kim's autopsy, after Kuala Lumpur refused to repatriate Kim to Pyongyang without a family DNA sample. It's not a naturally occurring chemical and was labeled chemical weapon and banned at the Chemical Weapons Convention in 1993.

There is an antidote to VX that can be given by injection. Symptoms appear nearly instantaneously, and if the dose is large enough, it can cause convulsions, paralysis, and respiratory failure. The Malaysian police have arrested a Vietnamese woman and an Indonesian woman suspected of smearing the chemical on his face. "She was very aware that it was toxic and that she needed to wash her hands".
