Monday was wear-a-hat day to celebrate "Cat in the Hat".
Geisel was born March 2, 1904, in Springfield, Massachusetts, and first used the pen name Dr. Seuss on a cartoon in the Saturday Evening Post in 1927.
This was the 20th anniversary of Read Across America and the National Education Association estimates that 45-million students faculty and readers participate every year.

Learning Support Specialist Meg Bobbitt read "The Cat in the Hat" to students at Daughtry Elementary School - often.
"The main goal is to encourage children to develop a love of reading", Taton said.

"We do this every year", said Sara Fisher, youth services director at the Degenstein.
At the library, kids made masks and other crafts and read stories related to Dr. Seuss.
"It's kind of exciting", Greer said. "A lot of cheering and excitement".
A few were even nervous about this day that pays tribute to Dr. Seuss' birthday. "It's so many kids that like to hear different sounds". In 1990, Geisel published a book for adults titled "Oh, the Places You'll Go" that became a hugely popular graduation gift for high school and college students.

Overall, Dr. Lewis felt that the day was a success.
