Students dress up to celebrate Dr. Seuss

7 News Daybreak and Noon anchor Tracey Early reads to first grade students at High Point Academy in Spartanburg Wednesday

Monday was wear-a-hat day to celebrate "Cat in the Hat".

Geisel was born March 2, 1904, in Springfield, Massachusetts, and first used the pen name Dr. Seuss on a cartoon in the Saturday Evening Post in 1927.

This was the 20th anniversary of Read Across America and the National Education Association estimates that 45-million students faculty and readers participate every year.

Magna Vista principal JaMese Black accompanied the Warriors for the special event.

"I think it's awesome", Donald said of the visit.

"This is just a small step that United Way can do and afford to do - reading to the children and bringing them about to awareness of reading, the fun of reading, the importance of reading", Hare said.

Learning Support Specialist Meg Bobbitt read "The Cat in the Hat" to students at Daughtry Elementary School - often.

"The main goal is to encourage children to develop a love of reading", Taton said.

The character was last seen attempting to escape the complex he is held in. Since X-Men released in 2000, he finally chose to stop being the mutant.

"They're on the softball team, but they're also strong in academics", Black said.

She said the main focus at Temple Elementary School for the students is literacy.

The week wrapped up with the Cooke County Library having a Dr. Seuss Night.

Junior Hunter Hargrove, who read "A Mother for Choco", said he felt there was another message hidden in their visit, too.

"We do this every year", said Sara Fisher, youth services director at the Degenstein.

At the library, kids made masks and other crafts and read stories related to Dr. Seuss.

"It's kind of exciting", Greer said. "A lot of cheering and excitement".

A few were even nervous about this day that pays tribute to Dr. Seuss' birthday. "It's so many kids that like to hear different sounds". In 1990, Geisel published a book for adults titled "Oh, the Places You'll Go" that became a hugely popular graduation gift for high school and college students.

The notice is light on details, and is meant to give businesses time to prepare for more technical requests and proposals later. President Donald Trump said there would be a "great, great wall" along the Mexican border - but didn't say Mexico would pay.

The 21 students earlier read their books to parents.

"I still like them", Thomas said.

Sophomore Akira Greenfield felt the stickers at the end of the story acted as a great incentive.

"So, I guess why is it important to engage the students?" "I love hanging around younger kids and being looked up to".

Freshman Emily Bray's kindergarten class especially liked their gift. "When I asked them about making the right decisions, they knew what was right and wrong, like stopping at a stop sign".

Overall, Dr. Lewis felt that the day was a success.

"Reading is a life skill", he said.
