Video shows daycare worker pushing child down stairs, police say

CAUGHT IN THE ACT The surveillance camera which had only just been installed caught the moment when Gable pushed the little girl down the stairs after struggling with her

A daycare worker is accused of pushing a 4-year-old girl down a flight of stairs. "When parents give their kids to daycare centers, the expectation is that their children are going to be taken care of", Chitwood said.

Police said as soon as the daycare owner found out about the incident, Gable was sacked from her job and police were called.

A camera installed 30 minutes before the incident reportedly captured footage of Sarah Gable, 52, of Folcroft, whom police say pushed the child down the steps at around 5:15 p.m. Friday at Childcare of the Future in Primos, WPVI reported.

"Apparently for no reason she takes this child and just throws her down a set of steps", Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood said.

"She was a little scared of the steps", said Tavares.

Shawayne Tavares, a manager at Child Care of the Future, told NBC10 Philadelphia she witnessed the entire incident unfold on the surveillance camera in real time.

"I went and confronted her at the bottom of the stairs, you can see me on camera", Tavares told KYW-TV.

She said Gable had been working at the site since June 2015 and had passed all background checks. "We don't do this to children'".

The parents were notified of the incident via a letter, and Gable was immediately fired and arrested.

Despite the fall, the girl has just a knee injury and was back at the daycare on Monday.
