A Romney Take Over in Utah?

Scott Sommerdorf

The Atlantic cited six sources who said Romney has been talking with people in Utah and Washington, D.C., about running for the seat now occupied by Republican Orrin Hatch.

Sen. Orrin Hatch has served in the Senate since 1977, and originally planned to step down after 2018, but after Republicans lost two seats in the Senate during the 2016 elections, he asserted he would most likely run again.

Though his anti-Trump credentials were tarnished by his post-election pursuit of the secretary of state post, sources who have discussed it with Romney say his views on Trump have not changed-and if he did enter the Senate, he would not be a reliable ally to the White House.

Suarez however, shot the hosts into the lead with an overhead kick after Messi's cross from the right was deflected into his path. Madrid have been victorious in four straight matches and has scored at least a goal in its last 50 games in all competitions.

In any event, if he wins (and it's hard to find anyone in Utah who doesn't think he'd win in a cakewalk if Hatch gets out of the way), Romney would have another distinction: He'd be the oldest freshman senator popularly elected to a full term.

In a recent television interview, family matriarch Ann Romney said her son Josh, a Salt Lake City real estate developer, is considering seeking the position.

"I've had some conversations with Mitt Romney".

Mitt Romney has spoken with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell amid speculation that the 2012 GOP presidential nominee could run for the Senate in Utah, McConnell said Friday.

No, he's not planning to run for president again, but if Utah Sen. Chaffetz raised Hatch's ire in 2012 when he publicly considered challenging Hatch for his seat.

I have my doubts whether Utah Republicans can convince Hatch to retire, but if they do, Romney in the Senate would be another pain in the neck for Donald Trump. "You just have to sift through that and wait to see the actions from individuals", Evans said.
