US Strikes Syrian Air Base in Retaliation for Chemical Weapons Attack

"Putin views the USA strikes on Syria as aggression against a sovereign state in violation of the norms of global law", Dmitry Peskov, a spokesman for President Vladimir Putin, said in a statement disseminated by Russian state TV early Friday.

Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull told reporters that the Australian government supported the "swift and just response" of the US airstrikes.

April 6, 2017: The U.S. fired a barrage of cruise missiles into Syria Thursday night in retaliation for this week's gruesome chemical weapons attack against civilians, U.S. officials said.

US President Donald Trump, initially reluctant to becoming involved in the Syria conflict, said it was in the vital national security interest of the US to prevent the use of chemical weapons.

"The U.S. rocket strike could tank the effort to combat terrorism in Syria", he said. The missile launch lasted for three to four minutes, USA officials said.

A Romney Take Over in Utah?
Chaffetz raised Hatch's ire in 2012 when he publicly considered challenging Hatch for his seat. No, he's not planning to run for president again, but if Utah Sen.

The attack happened in Syria's Idlib province about 100 kilometers (60 miles) from the Turkish border, and the Turkish government - a close ally of Syria's rebels - set up a decontamination center at a border crossing in Hatay province, where the victims were treated initially.

But Russia, one of Assad's fiercest allies in the conflict, condemned the USA attack as an "aggression against a sovereign state in violation of worldwide law". "It sends a strong message to the Assad regime, and. has been struck at the very airfield from which the chemical attack was delivered", Turnbull said.

It said four more were killed in two other nearby villages - Al-Hamrat and Al-Manzul. "There can be no dispute that Syria used banned chemical weapons, violated its obligations under the Chemical Weapons Convention and ignored the urging of the UN Security Council". "Why do we keep broadcasting when we are going to attack Syria".

"The US has informed the European Union that these strikes were limited and seek to deter further chemical weapons atrocities", Juncker said in a statement.

Eastern European leaders, who have been concerned about Trump's early overtures to the Kremlin, also embraced the move, which puts USA forces on a collision course with Russian firepower in Syria.

Corbyn, a lifelong opponent of military intervention overseas, said unilateral action without "legal authorisation" risks escalating the Syrian conflict and told the United Kingdom government to "urge restraint" from President Trump. Within two days, the U.S. has reversed its view on President Assad, identified targets and struck. Israel Katz, said it was an important step "both morally and strategically and a clear signal to the axis led by Iran which supports" Assad.

At the United Nations, diplomats met earlier Thursday to discuss three separate draft resolutions responding to the gas attack.

Russian Federation strongly objected to provisions in that draft and circulated its own text which diplomats said wasn't acceptable to the three Western nations.

Mr McFadden said: "The regime's use of chemical weapons went unanswered in 2013". He insisted they would never be used, "even against terrorists".
