Despite goals and win, Ronaldo still wanted more

Cristiano Ronaldo's double inspired Real Madrid to a 2-1 victory over 10-man Bayern Munich in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final on Wednesday as the Spaniards hit back from a goal down to steal an away win.

What has followed has been one of the great careers in European football, which has yielded a century of goals in just 140 games and has seen him lift the Champions League trophy on three occasions.

Ronaldo scored in the 47th and 77th minutes after Bayern had taken the lead in the 25th on Arturo Vidal's goal.

Ronaldo hailed the German's efforts in his post-match comments and added: "Neuer was very good, he made some saves".

But the Germany global will feel he should have done better for Ronaldo's victor as the Portuguese stabbed a shot through his legs from close range.

Ronaldo said it was a moment to savour. He last found the back of the net in a 2-2 group stage draw with Borussia Dortmund a year ago.

Bayern played the last half an hour a man down after centre back Javi Martinez was sent off for two fouls on Ronaldo within three minutes of each other.

Carlo Ancelotti, the former Real Madrid manager, who led the Spanish club to the Champions League title a few years ago, now needs to find to a way to pick up a win at the Bernabeu with his Bayern team. Half an hour later he poked the victor through Manuel Neuer's legs.

Real's superstar then hit the victor as substitute Marco Asensio, on for Bale, put in a low pass for Ronaldo to tap the ball home between Neuer's legs. "If Neuer does not have a day like this, we could have scored more goals".

Real Madrid punished Bayern's wastefulness after the restart as Christian Ronaldo restored parity after volleying home a cross from Daniel Carvajal with two minutes into the second half. "But we have the advantage and will play at home".

"We showed the willingness to get a good result after the first half and if we had gone in at 2-0, it may have been a different match".

A win for Zidane's side will consolidate their position at the top of the standings, but he accepted that Saturday's game was a potential banana skin.

Kremlin says no positive shift yet on Russia-US ties
Lavrov said he emphasized the need for a wide-ranging OPCW probe during Wednesday's talks in Moscow with U.S. Russian Federation has seen the same pictures that we all saw just days ago in this chamber.

"A third goal would have been a bonus".

"It will be more hard in Madrid, but we still have a chance, we are still alive".

"We didn't have so much possession and we were missing our usual self-assurance".

Sergio Ramos jumps on his teammate Cristiano Ronaldo to celebrate their side's 2nd goal during the Champions League. I scored, but could be another player, "he told the Real Madrid media".

Going into halftime, Bayern led with 10 shots to Madrid's seven - and this is a Madrid team that shoots more than nearly any other side in Europe. Barcelona is coming off disappointing losses at Malaga in the Spanish league and at Juventus in the Champions League.
