Apple may start testing self-driving cars in California indicates permit

Apple will apparently test a software and sensor sensor system installed in three test vehicles-all 2015 Lexus SUVs.

In another sign of the investment in self-driving cars, GM said this week it will add more than 1,100 jobs in California over five years at its Cruise Automation unit to boost its self-driving efforts. Its interest in autonomous vehicle technology, however, has always been clear. It means the Cupertino company received permits in the last couple of weeks or so.

Apple issued the letter because it is "investing heavily in machine learning and autonomous systems", an Apple spokesman said in an email to AFP at the time. "There are many potential applications for these technologies, including the future of transportation". Apple has remained secretive about its self-driving project. According to unnamed insiders who spoke with the The New York Times previous year, Apple laid off dozens of staffers as part of the shakeup.

Karlsson scores in OT to give Sharks 3-2 win over Oilers
Coach Peter DeBoer said that all of the players who missed the regular-season finale were dealing with day-to-day, nagging issues. Good news is the Sharks defense is deep and they have the edge in experience. "This isn't going to be a short series".

Apple's latest Supplier Responsibility Report indicated that it was sourcing automobile-related components from a major German company. The dry spell has raised doubts as to whether Apple lost some of its trend-setting magic with the death of co-founder Steve Jobs in 2011.

Similar research is being carried out by other automakers including Ford, Nissan, Mercedes-Benz and Toyota, and by other groups including Uber and Google parent Alphabet. Moreover, six human operators will sit behind the wheel to monitor the driving and take over when needed, reads the CDMV permission.

In October, Timothy D. Cook, Apple's chief executive, told investors, "We are always looking at new things, and the auto space in general is an area that it's clear that there are a lot of technologies that will either become available or will be able to revolutionize the vehicle experience". It wasn't the first to introduce a digital music player, smartphone, or tablet before its iPod, iPhone and iPad came out.

Russia reports arrest of suspected subway bomb organizer
Kyrgyz authorities said he is a Russian national born in the nation of Kyrygrzstan, the former Soviet Republic in central Asia. Petersburg metro blast was detained on Monday in the Moscow Region, Russia's Federal Security Service said in a statement.

Last month, Swiss publication Inside IT claimed that Apple had hired more than ten post-doctoral students from ETH Zurich to work at its research facility in Switzerland. As The Verge also describes, the question of whether or not Apple is currently testing driverless vehicles remains unknown for now.

But wait. Didn't Apple scrap its Project Titan (the one it never acknowledged until it said it was not going to make any self-driving cars) and start focusing only on the software part of autonomous driving technology?
