It's not entirely clear why Apple chose to make these apps free to all applicable users, though it may have something to do with the growing number of free alternatives online. According to 9to5Mac, users had to pay $4.99 (roughly Rs. 300) for the GarageBand and iMovie app on the App Store. iWork apps - Pages, Keynote, and Numbers for iOS - each carried a $9.99 (roughly Rs. 600) price tag. Those who haven't bought a new product, though, may still be lacking (free) access to the apps, but that changes today.

Likewise the iWork suite, featuring Numbers, Keynote and Pages, is now completely free (via Macrumors).
