Tiger Woods to design golf course near Branson

Woods said, pointing at his fellow assistant Ryder Cup captain, Tom Lehman, during a news conference to announce Woods' plans to develop his first public golf course.

The course is slated to open in 2019 and will be named Payne's Valley in honour of the late golfer Payne Stewart, who was born in Springfield, Missouri. As part of the ceremony, Woods hit a pair of 100-yard shots to christen the new design.

Veteran Woods watchers, recalling his triple-dunk at last year's exhibition at Congressional, had butterflies, even if the 14-time major champion did not. "To have the opportunity to represent Payne and his entire family and what he's meant to the state of Missouri, to the Ozarks, it's an honor for me", Woods says.

Morris owns the Top of the Rock and Buffalo Ridge Springs golf courses.
