Accused Tad Cummins kidnapper due in court Monday

He was arrested Thursday after a tip led police to them at a remote cabin in Cecilville, California.

They were found after staying at least a night in a remote cabin 2,500 miles from home near Cecilville, California, near the OR border. It had no electricity or furniture. However, Cummins apparently tried to make do: found inside the cabin were a grill, pots and pans, bottles of soda and water, a bag of rice, and empty food containers.

It ended in April, when the pair were spotted in Siskiyou County, California, and Cummins was taken into custody.

The girl is being evaluated and treated by mental health experts specializing in trauma, lawyer Jason Whatley said in a statement Friday. He said the girl was at times "laughing, crying and acting stoic" after police found her at the remote cabin. After being found, Elizabeth was reunited with her family.

The pair had been in the heavily wooded area 60 miles south of the OR line since at least last week, according to Griffin Barry, the man who says he eventually helped police capture Cummins.

When he was captured, Cummins, 50, told deputies "I'm glad this is over".

"He was like, 'We're from Colorado".

"At the end of the day when they're gone, you find out you can't live without them", he said.

However, Barry eventually became suspicious, noting that Thomas drove a vehicle without any plates, and that the young woman rarely spoke. Cummins was arrested without incident and booked into a California jail.

Another tap-in birdie at the par-5 14th put Chappell two strokes ahead, setting the stage for the closing drama. Before Chappell came down the 18th hole, Koepka had birdied the hole with a 3-foot putt to tie him.

Detectives from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and Maury County were in Cecilville, CA, on Saturday collecting more information and evidence.

Cummins also faces charges in Siskiyou County for kidnapping and possession of stolen property, according to the sheriff's department. The teacher, however, acknowledged that the girl was "a really good friend and she does leave her other classes to come see him when she needs someone to calm her down", according to a school report dated January 30. Elizabeth was walking behind him and was detained.

"I ask that people give the Thomas family their space".

"We are extremely thankful the hard work of all partners in this search has paid off".

Prior to her rescue, Elizabeth was last seen March 13. Thomas allegedly said he was on his way to a nearby commune with his 22-year-old "wife".

Surveillance video showed the pair at a Walmart in Oklahoma City on March 15. He will appear in federal court on Monday in Sacramento, CA.

Cummins was suspended from his job February 6, and he was sacked more than a month later - the day after he disappeared with his student.

March 10: Tad Cummins refills a prescription for Cialis, a performance-enhancing drug that treats sexual dysfunction. His wife reported that two handguns and some clothes and toiletries were missing from their home.

Cummins was charged with knowingly transporting a minor in interstate commerce with the intention to engage in sexual activity.

Gettleman: McCaffrey, Fournette both fit Panthers
Asked if McCaffrey is among the "half dozen" three-down backs he said he sees in this draft, Gettleman replied: "He can run it". McGinn also wrote that No. 3 back Christian McCaffrey scored a 21, Tennessee's Alvin Kamara a 24 and Oklahoma's Joe Mixon a 12.

If convicted on the federal charge, he could be sentenced to at least 10 years in prison, according to U.S. Attorney Jack Smith.

"We are following their recommendations completely, and so we are waiting on further instructions from them".

"It was a very traumatic experience for her. Her mood was very alternating", he said. "Her response to us and to law enforcement escalated up and down".

The sheriff said the girl showed no signs of elation when she and Cummins were found.

"John [Cummins] said they were Christians, but we made clear there is no religion at the commune, we're not about that", Sophia said. "She has not spoken to Tad".

Jill Cummins filed for divorce several weeks ago, citing irreconcilable differences and alleging that her husband was "guilty of inappropriate marital conduct".

How they got to Cecilville, California, and why they went there remains a mystery to investigators.

"This is not somewhere they had frequently visited", her attorney said. Journalist Burt Staggs, CNN's Holly Yan, AnneClaire Stapleton, Roxanne Garcia, Natisha Lance, Artemis Moshtaghian and HLN's Mike Galanos contributed to this report.
