United Nations welcomes release of Nigerian girls by Boko Haram

"We want to assure Nigerians that the army and the Nigerian government won't relent until this battle is won", Usman said.

Some of the 21 Chibok school girls released are seen during a meeting with Nigeria's Vice President Yemi Osinbajo in Abuja, Nigeria, October 13, 2016.

The Red Cross had on Monday explained its rolein freeing the girls. Earlier in May, the group released 82 girls in exchange for prisoners following negotiations that involved also the Swiss government. The 21 girls freed a year ago are under the federal government but Governor Shettima said these girls are his daughters, they are citizens of Borno and as such he was still going to be making contributions so that whatever we planned as federal government could be improved upon and he has been supporting us.

Dozens of girls who were kidnapped from their boarding school by Boko Haram militants were released this weekend in exchange for Boko Haram detainees, according to a statement released by Nigeria's president.

On Wednesday, May 10, Aisha Buhari, Nigeria's first lady pledged her support to help the recently rescued Chibok girls get resettled. Of the 276 girls kidnapped in April 2014, 113 are still missing.

Buhari said last month that the government was in talks to secure the release of the remaining captives.

Staff from the UN Population Fund (UNFPA), which provides services health services to women, are helping the girls with psycho-social and "reproductive health" care, said Dujarric.

Numerous girls from the school in Chibok, state of Borno, were Christian but were later photographed in Muslim dress by the militants.

Harden, Rockets rout Spurs 125-104 to tie series
Both are natural power forwards, so the Rockets will have to do something creative to keep the Spurs out of the paint. Now the Spurs find themselves planning to approach Tuesday's Game 5 in San Antonio like it's the last in this series.

The committee's spokesman, prince Dayo Adeyeye, expressed concern over the steep price that the Nigerian government had to pay for the freedom of the abducted girls.

The militants have killed more than 20,000 people and displaced more than 2 million during their insurgency aimed at creating an Islamic caliphate in northeast Nigeria. Human rights groups have criticized the decision to keep them in custody in Abuja.

While the kidnapping of schoolgirls gained notoriety worldwide, the actual number of kidnappings by Boko Haram in Nigeria is estimated at 30,000 with some young people used as suicide bombers. We urge the Buhari Administration not to relent in its efforts until all the abducted Chibok girls and in fact all abducted citizens all over the North East are freed from captivity.

The government "should open those girls up, you know, to their families to interact with, open them up to any other citizens or members of the global community that are ready to assist them", Manasseh said.
