Netflix Service Won't Be Available On Rooted, Unlocked Android Devices

Netflix for rooted Android phone will no longer be available

On Saturday, Netflix confirmed to Android Police that it had begun blocking rooted and unlocked devices (basically any device that isn't Google-certified) from being able to download its mobile app. For those devices that still run the app, the updated changelog says, "Version 5.0 only works with devices that are certified by Google and meet all Android requirements." .

In a statement to Android Police, Netflix confirmed that their Android app will no longer be available for rooted Android phones.

Erdogan Praises Trump, Denounces US's Kurdish Allies in Syria
Erdogan knows "Zarrab is going to testify against him unless Turkey finds a way to save him from prison", Yayla wrote. Yildirim's comments come hours ahead of a crucial meeting between presidents Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Donald Trump.

Starting with version 5.0, those with a rooted Android device will have to find other ways to get the Netflix app.

There are many trade-offs to rooting your Android phone or tablet. This has become important for Netflix especially after it enabled downloading of its videos on its platform. In fact, they can't download Netflix from Google Play, rendering the rooted phones useless if Netflix is involved. Probably more worringly is that Netflix seems to have disappeared for some unlocked devices without custom ROMs. Now, majority will have to choose to keep their root access and watch things as they unfold. Even worse, the Play Store no longer shows the app on the listing. Rooting a device makes you have a higher control of the Operating System, as such; it becomes easier to circumvent the DRM than it would have been ordinarily. This technology provides one of three security levels for each device, depending on which processes run in the Trusted Execution Environment (TEE), reports Deccan Chronicle.

Folks who enjoy tinkering with their Android phones have gotten a rude surprise this week: As far as Netflix is concerned, their phones no longer exist, and can no longer install or update the streaming video app. However, earlier today, eagle-eyed users started noting that Netflix was showing as incompatible for users of rooted or unlocked Android handsets.
