The Note: The White House stressing Sessions

Newt Gingrich, Conservative Pundits Turn On Special Counsel Mueller

In his testimony June 8, Comey detailed his meetings with Trump before he was sacked May 9, including conversations in which the president referred to the Russian Federation investigations as a cloud over his presidency. "I think the best thing to do is to let Robert Mueller do his job".

"I think he's considering perhaps terminating the special counsel", Ruddy said on PBS NewsHour.

Speaking before a joint House and Senate Appropriations Subcommittee, Rosenstein struck a more somber tone, assuring the lawmakers that he was aware of "no secret plan" to oust Mueller. "I have confidence in Bob Mueller".

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosentein offered assurances to lawmakers on Tuesday that he is exclusively responsible for Mueller's fate since Attorney General Jeff Sessions has recused himself from the Russian Federation investigation. What is clear is that he could order the Justice Department to ax Mueller, which may result in Rosenstein's departure and would certainly intensify the uproar over the investigation.

So says someone who helped craft the special-counsel law.

Donald Trump confirms he is under investigation for firing James Comey
Speaking to Harris Faulkner, Wallace said Trump once again kept Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation at the top of the headlines.

With Attorney General Jeff Sessions recused from investigations related to the 2016 presidential campaign, Rosenstein is the acting attorney general overseeing Mueller's probe.

Sessions will also be prepared to describe the process of filling out his SF-86 security clearance form in 2016 - specifically, the advice he received from Federal Bureau of Investigation personnel that he didn't need to include all of the meetings he had with foreign officials in his capacity as a sitting senator, the source said.

White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders said that "Chris speaks for himself".

Trump took his Comey attacks to Twitter starting Friday - "Yes, Trump says Comey's a 'coward.' 'You want to attack somebody, do it like a man: tweet from the toilet" - and by the end of the weekend, the entire Trump circle was on the Comey-belittlement train. "I think there's a conflict there".

Still, Trump's allies are looking to sow doubt, pointing to donations some on Mueller's team have made to Democrats. Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) suggested it could lead Congress to re-establish an independent counsel statute and reappoint Mueller.

Her tweet, late Tuesday, ended a day in which the White House said the president has "no intention" of firing Mueller.

The White House appeared blindsided by it, but took hours to address it, triggering speculation it was, one, a plan indeed and Moody was testing the waters for Trump, and two, it was an attempt by a anxious administration to intimidate the counsel and the formidable team of lawyers he was putting together. The person demanded anonymity to discuss strategy on the sensitive matter. If President Trump were to make such a move, he would have to order Rosenstein to fire Mueller.

"Look, the president of the United States, as we all know, is a unitary executive". But the president is going to seek the advice of his counsel and inside the government as well as outside. He added that he "can't imagine" it would happen, however.

Who's Ruddy? The Los Angeles Times has a quick bio of the longtime Trump pal that explains why he's generally a reliable gauge on what Trump is thinking. Ruddy did not immediately respond to questions seeking clarification.

But Republican former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, who initially praised Mueller's selection, said he has changed his mind because the special counsel is hiring some "bad people".

Cuban Ambassador to the US Criticizes President Trump's Policy Rollbacks
An AP Fact Check finds that President Donald Trump's policies on Cuba sounds a lot like President Barack Obama's old policies. The Cuban government has made clear it will not be pressured into reforms in exchange for further engagement with Washington.

"Mr. Ruddy never spoke to the President regarding this issue", Spicer said. They're appointed by the attorney general, and under normal circumstances, it's the attorney general who has the authority to fire them.
