Seattle police shoot, kill woman who reported burglary

Seattle police have said officers responding to a burglary call at the apartment shot and killed the 30-year-old woman who was armed with a knife.

"The officers immediately performed first aid", but fire medics arrived and determined she had died, the police department said in a statement Sunday afternoon.

While she was in jail, Lyles learned she was three months pregnant, her family said. Jamieson says it's unclear if the children witnessed the shooting.

Prominent faces in the Black Lives Matter movement have been tweeting and posting about the incident after Lyles' family said she'd had mental-health issues leading up to the shooting and that they believed Lyles' race - she was African American - was a factor.

"The obstruction was she wouldn't let go of her baby until I got here and she had some scissors in her hand".

Seattle Police Department, explaining why they released the audio files, said, "while recognizing that the release of information can be (sic) source of tension during active, ongoing investigations, SPD also believes transparency throughout the investigation of deadly force incidents is essential to maintaining public trust".

Seattle Police officers will smear the victim with menacing photographs and release her criminal history.

The officers involved in the incident are expected to be placed on administrative leave while the shooting is under investigation.

Murray told the Stranger that after the shooting, police handed her two of Lyles' children, a 10-year-old and a toddler.
