GOP eyes Senate health care vote next week, amid grumbling

According to NBC News, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell made the announcement on Tuesday, June 20, that he would be releasing a "discussion draft" of the bill to the members of the Republican party and the American public on Thursday. A second conservative, Utah's Mike Lee, complained about not seeing the legislation despite being on the working group of senators assigned to craft it and said lawmakers should have seen the measure "weeks ago" if they're to vote next week.

"Everything about it turned the American people off - that's not the way to operate", McConnell continued.

"Listen, there has to be private meetings all the time, but I think there should be more public debate on it", King said in an interview on "LI in the AM" radio in NY highlighted by CNN.

Paul is not one of the 13 senators chosen by McConnell to draft the bill.

Democrats have also lambasted McConnell for writing the sweeping legislation in closed-door meetings.

Saudi says captures three Iranian Revolutionary Guards from boat
It said one of the boats was subsequently seized and found to be "carrying weapons for a sabotage target". The statement came two days after Iran accused Saudi Arabia of shooting and killing one of its fishermen.

House Republicans have also lost the backing of most independents voters, who were split on the bill in April with 36 percent supporting it and the same percentage opposing it.

And McConnell is pushing for a vote on the bill before Congress' July 4 recess.

There was even stronger opposition to the provision in the House bill that would allow insurers to charge older customers of individual health plans much more than younger people than is now allowed by Obamacare.

Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.V. and Sen.

That's even true for the process that produced President Barack Obama's health care law, the Affordable Care Act, which the GOP is now trying to dismantle. He plans to roll out the bill text this week, and vote on it next week.

The Note: The White House stressing Sessions
Adam Schiff (D-CA) suggested it could lead Congress to re-establish an independent counsel statute and reappoint Mueller. Her tweet, late Tuesday, ended a day in which the White House said the president has "no intention" of firing Mueller.

When asked if those two sections would be included in the Senate's bill, Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn of Texas said only, "That's our objective".

The Senate must have the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office provide a cost estimate for the measure 28 hours before a vote can take place.

Just which element of the bill was seen as a revenue-raiser was unclear as of Tuesday. In the same bill, provisions were added to punish Russian Federation for its support to the current Syrian regime, annexation of Crimea and its alleged interference in the 2016 presidential elections.

The legislation imposing sanctions on Russian Federation that was unanimously passed by the U.S. Senate last week hit a roadblock in the House on Tuesday. Enough have voiced concerns to make clear that McConnell and other leaders have work to do before passage is assured. And another conservative, Sen. Bob Casey, D-Pa., said during a call with reporters on Tuesday that the proposed Medicaid cuts would come at a time when opioid addiction is increasing and taking more lives.
