Erdogan rejects Arab demands; Turkish troops stay in Qatar

Qatar crisis

Al Sulaiti said that Qatar is hoping to "get more routes for Qatar" and said he trusted the United Nations body to resolve the dispute and "take action very quickly", Reuters reported.

The list contains demands Doha needs to meet in order to restore ties with other Arab nations.

Hurriyet newspaper said last week a joint exercise by Turkish and Qatari forces was expected following the Islamic Eid al-Fitr holiday which started on Sunday, and the number of Turkish soldiers sent to the Gulf state could eventually reach 1,000. Mr Erdogan gave his full support to Qatar's response to the demands of the Gulf States.

"Some media and websites have issued reports of a statement attributed to the embassy of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques [i.e., Saudi Arabia] in Ankara that included an advisory to all citizens wishing to travel to Turkey to postpone their trips or change their destination", the embassy said in an official statement.

He said Turkey would continue to support Qatar against the many sanctions it has faced since several Arab countries moved earlier this month to isolate the country for its alleged support of terrorism.

The United States said the demands on Qatar by its Mideast neighbors "will be very hard to meet".

On Friday, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and Egypt handed a 13-point ultimatum to Qatar.

"This blockade is not aimed at fighting terrorism but at impinging on Qatar's sovereignty and interfering in its foreign policy", Sheikh Saif said.

Virat Kumble row : Coach's resignation was publicity stunt ?
Kumble has demanded separate contracts for red ball and white ball players and said that the captain be paid 25 per cent extra. Had the CAC said they were not happy with these applicants, it would have been in order to invite fresh applications.

Erdogan said Turkey had also offered to establish a military base in Saudi Arabia, but never received a clear answer.

"Here we see an attack against a state's sovereignty rights", Erdogan said.

The Gulf States have said they are willing to lift the ongoing embargo, pending Qatar's agreement to a set of demands that includes the closure of Al Jazeera, payment of reparations, curtailing relations with Iran and cutting off any links to groups they have deemed to be sectarian, ideological or terrorists.
