Bethanie Mattek-Sands hurts knee in fall; Karolina Pliskova out in upset

Bethanie Mattek Sands receives oxygen before being stretchered off the Wimbledon court

Mattek-Sands stayed down in the middle of Court 17 and was attended to by medical personnel.

American Bethanie Mattek-Sands suffered what looked to be a severe knee injury during her second-round match Thursday at Wimbledon, crumpling to the ground and screaming as she approached the net in the opening game of the third set against Sorana Cirstea of Romania.

Mattek-Sands, a wildcard entry to the singles, is a doubles specialist and in tandem with Lucie Safarova has won the last three grand slam titles, at the US Open, Australian Open and French Open. It's clear there was confusion from her opponent, staff and the crowd about the severity of the injury.

Roger Federer calls for change in rules over pullouts
I have been around and feels like I'm super old, but I'm not. "I tried to find a bit of momentum but I couldn't find any rhythm". The Greek player, Stefanos Tsitsipas however, provided little in the way of opposition despite his best efforts.

After a moment's silence she suddenly screamed out in pain, then shouted "help me", clutching her right leg. "These painkillers are not working", she was heard to say before she was taken off the court, according to The Sun.

"It was heartbreaking because she went into shock and it took a while until the medical team was there ..." She was later seen in tears at courtside. Her knee was in a very weird position. "It was like something you see only in the movies", said Cirstea. "I said, 'I'm here, I'm here, I'm here.' I think [it] was tough because she was stuck on this, 'Sorana, help me".

Wimbledon defended its response time in a series of tweets, saying a paramedic made it onto court 17 within one minute.

Mainstream American news networks ABC, CBS , and NBC also fared better than Trump in the poll , winning by an 11 point margin. But the poll , conducted by Survey Monkey and published by Axios , also illustrates the stark political divide in the U.S.

Just a devastating scene at Wimbledon as Bethanie Mattek-Sands goes down with an injury.

Mattek-Sands is one of the most experienced figures on the WTA Tour having turned professional 18 years ago.
