Charlie Gard Case: American Doctor Arrives Examine Terminally Ill Baby

The 11-month-old suffers from a rare genetic condition but his parents say claims by his doctors that he is irreparably brain damaged are false

Gard's parents want to take him to the United States to give him an opportunity to undergo an experimental therapy.

Charlie has infantile onset encephalomyopathic mitochondrial DNA depletion syndrome.

The Telegraph reported that Michio Hirano, a professor of neurology at the Columbia University Medical Center in NY, is scheduled to visit Great Ormond Street Hospital in London on Monday and Tuesday to examine Charlie, who is suffering from a rare genetic condition and is believed to have brain damage. He specializes in myopathies and other neuromuscular diseases.

Charlie suffers from the rare genetic condition, which causes progressive muscle weakness and brain damage.

Dollar Steady Ahead of US Inflation Data

The U.S. doctor who has offered to treat terminally ill Charlie Gard has attended a meeting at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) to decide whether the baby should travel to America for therapy.

After receiving the letter, Great Ormond Street asked the High Court for a new hearing on Charlie "in the light of claims concerning possible other treatments".

The U.S. neurologist said reports of brain scans suggested that Charlie had brain disorder rather than structural damage.

Hirano had estimated that there will be a 10 percent chance of "meaningful success" for the baby using nucleoside treatment.

Hero Rejected Bail, Back in Jail
The prosecution had asserted not to give bail to the actor in the wake of various reports surfacing online supporting the actor. The special prosecutor recalled the actor's statements and reactions before his arrest which apparently preyed on the victim.

After a series of hearings and appeals in several courts, the European Court of Human Rights decided on June 30 not to intervene in the case, which upheld a British Supreme Court decision that the hospital could discontinue life support to Charlie and he could not be transferred. Hirano added that keeping Charlie on a ventilator would not cause him harm because he did not seem to be in any significant pain.

Hirano will assess the situation Monday and Tuesday.

A judge overseeing the latest stage of litigation has agreed that Ms Yates can be present when experts meet to discuss Charlie's condition.

They boy's parents are fighting an emotional legal battle with Britain's most famous children's hospital over whether trying an experimental treatment is in Charlie's best interest.
