Samsung second-quarter profit surges to record high on memory chip boom

With leader jailed, Samsung reports record $9.7 billion profit

That's not the division where most of the profit originated, though, but rather Samsung logged a stellar quarter because of growing demand for its memory chips, OLED display panels, and other humble components it has been building capacity for in the last decade or so.

By division, the home appliance and air solution unit generated 465.7 billion won operating profit, up 7.4 percent on-year, with the revenue coming in at 5.25 trillion won, up 11.7 percent. The previous record was set in the third quarter of 2013, when Samsung's operating profit hit 10.1 trillion won.

Samsung's growth this quarter was largely down to the stunning success of its semiconductor business, which is experiencing an unprecedented boom on the back of strong demand for server memory chips to store, analyze and process data in data centers. It also benefited from growth in LTE equipment sales.

The hosts of this show were Ant-Man's Paul Rudd and Michael Pena in character as Scott Lang and Luis, respectively. It's starting to feel like there's been a long gap between Ant-Man and its planned sequel, Ant-Man And The Wasp .

SK hynix, a major chipmaker, advanced 2.4 percent to 68,400 won, but Samsung Electronics actually edged down 0.08 percent to end at 2,490,000 won, as investors opted to cash in profits, according to analysts.

The company has also seen lower sales of its mid-range phones but a refresh of its Galaxy J series should be able to renew demand in the sector.

Samsung reported record-high quarterly profit and sales Thursday.

Later, another tabloid claimed that Theron heard about the report, and attempted to have Mowry banned from SoulCycle . I've met him for like three seconds, like, passing I was just like, 'Hi!' because our kids go to the same school".

Samsung has been trying to overcome an embarrassing recall past year of its flagship Galaxy Note 7 smartphone over exploding batteries, which cost it billions of dollars and dealt a blow to its reputation.

Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong is on trial for bribery and embezzlement linked to the corruption scandal that toppled ex-President Park Geun-hye while his father, Chairman Lee Kun-hee, has been hospitalized since 2014.

Peter Lee, an analyst at NH Investment Securities, said the biggest variable of Samsung's earnings for the latter half of the year will be the launch of Apple's new iPhone.

Andrew Luck to open Colts camp on PUP
Darius Butler filled in well for Geathers last season as he was moved to safety from his more natural cornerback position. The Colts have high hopes for Hooker, who could be in line for early playing time in the secondary.

Samsung also plans to expand its NAND chip plant in the Chinese city of Xian to meet booming demand for the chips used in high-end storage products, it said.
