Tesla semi truck to test self-driving, capable of 'platooning'

Entrepreneur and billionaire Elon Musk never stops when it comes to innovation, and now his company, Tesla, is developing a long-haul, electric semi-truck that will be self-driving.

Tesla is already in talks with the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles according to an email discussion that the publication has seen.

Tesla will soon unveil trucks which are autonomously capable of travelling in "platoons".

. He made no reference to any dates for potential road tests. Its most popular competition comes from Uber and Waymo, Google's former autonomous vehicle development company now under its parent firm Alphabet Inc.

Reuters exclusively reported on Wednesday that Tesla is now developing a self-driving semitruck, which the solar and tech company hopes to test out on Nevada roads. If self-driving trucks become predominant on the roads, it could steal business from Berkshire owned railroad Burlington Northern, Buffett hinted. Ars has reached out to Tesla for comment and we'll update if we receive a response. In one of these exchanges, Tesla regulatory official Nasser Zamani wrote to DMV official April Sanborn about the agenda for a July 16 meeting. More than a year ago, the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment held an autonomous truck platooning demo that involved automakers such as DAF Trucks, Daimler, IVECO, MAN, Scania, and Volvo.

United States missile shield not certain to protect Guam from North Korea
Guam officially became a USA territory in 1950 and was put under the administration of the Department of the Navy . There are two major bases on Guam: Andersen Air Force Base in the north and Naval Base Guam in the south.

"They think the truck doesn't have enough power or it doesn't have enough range, and then with the Tesla Semi we want to show that no, an electric truck actually can out-torque any diesel semi", Musk said in the talk. Tesla plans to reveal the electric-semi truck next month.

Vehicles that platoon must continually communicate with each other and the infrastructure around them, but the distances between them are far too short to allow a human driver to react in time to emergencies. The technology is also seen favorably by truck makers since the vehicles don't face cross-traffic scenarios and operate at a constant speed on highways.

France police arrest suspect in auto attack case
In June, a man identifying himself as a "soldier of the Caliphate" attacked a policeman on patrol outside Notre-Dame cathedral. Six French soldiers have reportedly been injured after a vehicle rammed into them in the Paris suburb of Levallois-Perret.

"We were the first state in the nation to adopt regulations authorising the use of autonomous vehicles within state lines", Sandoval said.
