PlayStation 4 Update 5.00 Beta Patch Notes Mention New Features

PS4 Firmware 5.0 Beta Rolls Out Today; Change Notification Colors, Message Improvements, Family on PSN, and More

Among the changes will be how family accounts are managed (allowing more than one "Master" or adult account per family), the ability to create specific lists to organize your friends, the ability to link communities to broadcasts, support for 1080p 60fps streaming on Twitch for PS4 Pro owners, the ability to share messages, configure notifications a bit more, and some changes to the Quick Menu. Sony today confirmed the PS4 system software version 5.0.

The Favorite Groups tab will be replaced by a tab called Custom List on the Friends screen. There will be a new Family Manager where users will be able to setup PSN accounts for their children, while also giving parents or guardians the option to set parental control levels for each child, as explained by Sony on the PlayStation Blog.

Not much in the way of new information was provided than what was revealed last week, but there are extra details.

After missing 9 of 15 practices, Breaux was diagnosed with a simple contusion, but it turns out that the injury is far worse. The Advocate reported earlier this week that New Orleans wanted to trade Breaux in part because of his injury history.

Finally, and perhaps the most sizable change, is Sony's overhaul of the Parental Control features for PS4. For example, you can create a custom list of your Destiny teammates and easily send them raid invites. All controls can be individually controlled for each child account.

Broadcasting gets special features as well, with community support. When a broadcast is linked to a community, the community button appears on the Live from PlayStation spectator screen. From there, a spectator can click on the community button and jump right to the community page to check out details.

Friends on PlayStation 4 will be able to listen to any tracks sent through messages on the console from right inside the tab by booting up Quick Menu. This setting is set to off by default but can be enabled if the user wishes.

New setting allows the user to disable pop-up notifications while watching a movie or TV show on PS4. No longer will your viewing experience be interrupted by a pop-up. Turning the setting off the pop-up notification will hide the message senders' online ID showing a generic user icon and message instead. For example, users will be able to check on download progress and see new party invites without having to leave a now opened application to do so. Users can also choose between white or black as the color of pop-up notifications. Now, Sony Interactive Entertainment has officially unveiled what's set to be included in the patch, as select beta testers have today been given access to all of the forthcoming changes in the update that will incorporate a few big features, as well as some small refinements intending to improve the system's overall performance and functionality.

The update includes new parental controls, custom friends lists, broadcasting/messaging improvements, notification tweaks, Quick Menu additions, PlayStation VR virtual surround sound, new tournament bracket view and additional language support. A Leave Party option has also been added to Quick Menu.
