Google appeals against huge European Union anti-trust fine

Alphabet launched an appeal Monday of the EU's $2.7 billion antitrust fine

Google was also given 90 days to end the "anti competitive" practices or face a further fine amounting to 5% of the average daily global earning of its parent company Alphabet. This appeal is not suspensive; Google will therefore have to pay the fine. A Google spokesperson confirmed the appeal filed but denied making any further comments.

Following the ruling, Google said it "respectfully" disagreed and was considering whether to appeal.

"The Commission's decision stands on firm ground, both legally and factually, and we expect the Commission to win on appeal", FairSearch lawyer Thomas Vinje said.

Jurgen Klopp Welcomes Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain To Liverpool
Oxlade-Chamberlain moved to the Merseyside club recently for a fee of £40 million. Whether Wenger decides to take his complaints any further remains to be seen.

"What Google has done is illegal under EU antitrust rules", EU Commissioner Margrethe Vestager at the time. "It denied other companies the chance to compete on the merits and to innovate".

While the Google case is not the same as that of Intel, the judgment has been welcomed by companies under European regulatory scrutiny because it raises the bar for the regulator to prove wrongdoing.

The EU fined the internet giant for abusing its dominance in Europe to position its own shopping comparison service at the top of Google search results.

Manchester City 5-0 Liverpool
The Liverpool player's sending off was "not intentional", according to City boss Pep Guardiola . The complexion of the game changed late in the first half, as Sadio Mane was sent off.

The EU Court of Justice told a lower tribunal last Wednesday to re-examine USA chipmaker Intel's appeal against a 1.06 billion euro fine, dealing a rare setback to the Commission.

Earlier last week, Europe's anti-trust chief Margrethe Vestager said Google's proposals to comply with the European Union order to modify its shopping service was pointed in the "right direction". These concern the contracts for its AdSense advertising service and the licensing of its Android mobile phone operating system.
