Qatar's emir to meet Turkey's President Erdogan

German chancellor Angela Merkel and Qatar's emir Sheikh Tamim speak to the media following talks at the Chancellery in Berlin

The Emir will hold talks with Merkel on the prospects of cooperation between the two friendly countries and ways to develop them, in addition to the latest regional and worldwide developments, primarily the Gulf crisis.

During the meeting, which was held at the Presidential Palace in the Turkish capital, the Emir and Erdogan reviewed the close relations and prospects for their development in various fields to serve the common interests of the two friendly countries and peoples.

They were also joined in the two-and-half hour meeting by Energy Minister and Erdogan's son-in-law Berat Albayrak, images showed.

The United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Arab Republic of Egypt have affirmed that the measures they have taken against Qatar are legitimate decisions that are by no means a "blockade".

Doha denies the allegations, describing the attempts to diplomatically isolate it as a violation of worldwide law and its national sovereignty.

Turkey's leader has been a major supporter of Doha since June 5 when a Saudi-led bloc cut ties and blockaded Qatar.

But his visit ended without any sign of a breakthrough and Ankara has shown signs of preferring to leave mediation efforts to Kuwait.
