We made mistakes, the pitch wasn't the best, either, but it was the same for them. Inspirational coach Gian Piero Gasperini admits his team aren't quite performing how he would like them to, but there is plenty of talent in the Atalanta line-up, and they are certainly capable of having another strong campaign.

Koeman's substitutions failed to produce a goal, and as the Dutchman said after the game, relayed by Corriere dello Sport: "They gave us a lesson in football".

However, one player seemed to receive more criticism from supporters for his performance at the Mapei Stadium, with Muhamed Besic getting the full brunt of it. "I wasn't so anxious after Chelsea, it started with the reaction in the second half against Tottenham - that 45 minutes and the first 45 minutes on Thursday, I think there are enough reasons to be anxious".

"Especially for a striker it's important how many goals you score but I don't put any pressure on a player over that".
