Qualcomm wants China to ban Apple iPhone sales and manufacturing

In July, Qualcomm filed a complaint with the US International Trade Commission, alleging that Apple infringed six of its patents in the iPhone model and requesting a ban on imports.

Apple Inc. said chip supplier Qualcomm Inc.'s lawsuit aiming to ban the sale and manufacture of iPhones in China was "meritless" and "will fail".

At the same time, Apple dropped to fifth from fourth in the China smartphone market, as it faces fierce competition from domestic rivals Huawei Technologies, Oppo Electronics Corp., Vivo Smartphone and Xiaomi Inc., according to research firm Counterpoint.

When asked to provide some details with regards to the lawsuit, a spokesperson for Qualcomm told Bloomberg that it involved Apple's violation of three patents. "In our many years of ongoing negotiations with Qualcomm, these patents have never been discussed and in fact were only granted in the last few months", an Apple spokesperson said. Apple filed a similar suit in China a week later and other antitrust litigation worldwide. Though there aren't any direct benefit to Qualcomm, the company can negotiate with Apple to further extent regarding the Apple's lawsuit against the Qualcomm for a whopping 1 billion dollars. In response, Apple stopped paying licensing revenues to Qualcomm. They cover power management and a touch-screen technology called Force Touch that Apple uses in current iPhones.
